Things You Must Do While In Del Mar California

By Terry Hunefeld

Del Mar California is a dream town - an upscale ocean-side community just north of San Diego. Within the Del Mar city limits, a quaint historical village serves as a backdrop to a small seaside resort first made famous in the 1930's when Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante and other race horse lovers from Hollywood built the horse race track at the fairgrounds.

1. The Place To Be Is Epazote

Del Mar's historic downtown village dates back to the 1880's and offers over sixty unique shops, quaint inns and hotels and twenty five restaurants with enough variety to please even the pickiest of shoppers and eaters. A great place to begin or conclude your shopping and dining tour of Del Mar proper is at the impressive Del Mar Plaza at the corner of Camino del Mar (old Highway 101) and 15th Street.

The plaza is the home of Epazote, a local restaurant favorite. It's a wonderful place for lunch or end of the day cocktails because it has an outdoor patio that swells with sunshine, sea breezes and enchanting panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. It's also one of Del Mar's favorite nightlife destinations with a contemporary, upscale vibe. Sleek and sophisticated, with a 180-degree views of the Pacific, hip bar and a cutting edge ocean view lounge, Epazote is a great day or night experience. Oh, and did I mention the food? All of it is creative, unique and wonderful.

2. Take A Hike Through Time

You can spend an entire day hiking up cliffs and down to the ocean, around and through ancient sculpted sandstone canyons at this San Diego treasure: Torrey Pines State Reserve. The reserve is enormous, nearly 1800 acres set aside to protect the rare and endangered Torrey Pine. You'll find multiple trails for hikers and joggers, each affording a different yet phenomenal view of an other-worldly landscape. Here you'll find wind bent trees, eerie sandstone formations and fields of wildflowers all framed by the Pacific Ocean below and beyond - it's a constantly changing landscape depending on the movement of sun and clouds. Bring a camera - every trail has an awesome views and different perspective of the Pacific Ocean.

3. See The World From Way "Up There"

Thought by many to be one of the best balloon rides in the world, a sunset flight from Del Mar is an extraordinary way to see Southern California. A coastal Del Mar Sunset flight is an unforgettable experience - up there the air is clear, the sun seem to shine brighter and a sense of relaxation overcomes you. You can soar through the sky and glide effortlessly above the hills and valleys - a calm, peaceful and relaxing way to panoramically take in the enormity of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego countryside.

Google the following companies to compare itineraries and rates: Panorama Balloon Tours, Skysurfrer Balloon Tours or Sky's The Limit Balloon Adventures. On clear days you can see San Clemente and Santa Catalina Islands, 60 - 70 miles off shore. It doesn't matter if you're staying at a hotel in Del Mar or an Encinitas Bed and Breakfast, you're just minutes away from experiencing a lifetime treat.

4. Get The Tan Of A Lifetime

Del Mar beaches are very popular because the waves are usually gentle and it's a great place to learn to surf. With more than two miles of sandy beaches and excellent conditions for swimming, body surfing, board surfing, boogie boarding, or just lounging in the sun, Del Mar beaches are a vacationer's delight. A nearby bed and breakfast in Encinitas is located only a block from Moonlight Beach, and is appropriately named the Inn at Moonlight Beach. On some beaches, residents are allowed to bring their dogs and spectators enjoy great games of dog/human Frisbee. No matter what beach you're on, you'll see hundreds of people spending the whole day under the sun with friends and family. The best and most popular beach is at the end of 15th Street - crowded year around with families, couples, friends and surfers. A good selection of Del Mar hotels and inns can be found near the beaches.

5. Pedal Around Town

Bike riding is one of the simplest ways to have fun, enjoy the wonderful Del Mar scenery, especially if you're staying at a Del Mar B&B or other vacation lodging. With near-perfect weather all year, enjoying the great outdoors is a way of life for most Del Martians who enjoy riding down quiet residential streets along the ocean. Del Mar is full of paths and trails that give cyclists an opportunity to relax, exercise and explore. Any way you cut it, Del Mar is a great place to have fun, get fit, and relax!

Greece : What's The Food And Drink Like?

By Paul Christian

In this part of our guide to holidays in Greece we focus on the cuisine you'll experience there...

Greece is located in Southern Europe and has extensive coastlines and islands in the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. It offers a myriad of experiences, landscapes and activities and is famous for its beaches, reliable sunny summer weather, nightlife, historical sites and natural beauty.

It attracts more than 15 million visitors a year, making it one of the top 20 tourist destinations in the world, 90% of which visit come from other European countries (although in recent years there have been growing numbers of tourists from other world regions).

The most popular destinations include the capital, Athens, and the islands, especially Crete, Rhodes and Corfu. Some areas are very tourist orientated, but people seeking a quieter experience can still find places free from mass tourism.

The great bulk of visitors arrive in the tourism season, which runs from April through October and peaks in July and August. In the off-season, the bulk of Greece's tourist infrastructure becomes dormant, particularly on the islands.

Athens and Thessalonki handle the bulk of scheduled international flights. However, during tourism season, several charter and planned low-budget flights arrive daily from many European cities to many of the islands and smaller cities on the mainland.

A valid passport is necessary to enter Greece. Citizens of some non-EU countries may also need to obtain a visa, but citizens of the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can stay as long as 90 days without needing a visa.

The country's rates of theft and violence against visitors are relatively low and travelers are neither required nor advised to have immunization vaccinations prior to entering Greece.

Cell Phones: Wireless Carriers and Reception Explained

By Cathy L. Kimble

Cellular Phones need reception in order to work. Good reception means a good experience, Great reception means a great one. Anyone looking can easily spend the same if not more time comparing a cell phone carrier and their plans as they would comparing the cell phones themselves. Getting proper information on this is hard. The reason for this is that the time and variables involved are so great that many online review site tend to steer clear of the subject.

As said by J.D. Power and Associates, wireless service has reached such high quality that cell phone users no longer find it a requirement to maintain a land line as well as a cell phone. It appears cell phones are enough. But as with most statistics there are combating results. According to comScore Networks, an amazing 1 out of 4 cellular customers are not satisfied. These combating statistics show how cellular technology is still in its growing stages. Even ask someone about their service, you will always get miced results, those that love and those that hate their carrier, with plenty of stories to boot. J.D. Power and Associates also finds that people who had an unresolved problem with their carrier, after trying customer service, were six times more likely to switch provider. That is were cancellation fees come into play. You see cell phone companies want to maintain their customer for good or for worse and have implemented cancellation fees to increase customer retention. Even the intro of 3G Networks, which started off with great expectation has received its share of complaints. So how do you decide on the best carrier? Well here is a rundown of which carriers rank best.

As said by comScore, Verizon as a Wireless Service Provider has continuously raked tops in both coverage and service. And, surprisingly, a low six percent of their customer break the contract.

AT&T/Cingular come in second, just behind Verizon. Alltels customer service contract breakers are more numerous, coming in at 9 percent, while Sprint/Nextel have an even higher dissatisfaction rating at 11 percent. At the bottom of the heap is T-Mobile, with 15% of customers wanting to break out of contract obligations.

Keep in mind that the above comScore survey is not location specific and it also uses the ration of contracts being broken as the main deciding factor for popularity. J.D. Power and Associates confirms that Verizon is the leader, but also mentions that this leadership is more specific to the Northeast (Verizon has the strongest coverage in the Northeast). And T-Mobile that had the lowest rating with comScore, ranked first for the Southwest, according to JD Power and Associates. Moreover, Verizon ranks lower when speaking in terms of the CDMA mobile telephones that run it. These CDMA rather than GSM phones tend not to accept Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM Cards) which prevents their use when travelling overseas. Another downer is that Verizons rates are considerably higher that the competition and their billed appear to be complicated to read.

J.D. Powers and Associates also says that in the Southwest, Sprint is very popular. But at the same time concedes that in terms of call quality Sprint rank very low. A PC Magazine survey also confirmed the latter statistic. However PC Magazine also ranked T-Mobile as the best carrier in terms of pricing, second only to Alltel. As well T-Mobile has a wide range of cell phone in which you can use its service and since T-Mobile uses GSM you can use a SIM card enabling international use.

When is comes to prepaid cell phones, they deserve a category on their own. Virgin Mobile had the highest points, just ahead of TracFone and T-Mobile. Verizon Prepaid service as well as AT&T prepaid service follow in order of decreasing popularity, with good old Sprint/ Nextel at the bottom of the rankings.

Which carrier you choose may depend not only on how many phone calls you need to make but also on what part of the country you will be using your phone. Also if you travel a lot internationally and even what type of cell phone will best suit your needs. It pays to do the research and ulimatley avoid being trapped in a contract that you are unhappy with.

Crafts to Business

By Ian Kleine

Sure, you have the tools and the finances needed to start your very own business, but what business will you start? You often hear the terms "You should do what you love and do what you do best" or "Be in the know with what you're doing, and do it for the sake of craft, and not for money". Well, let me tell you something, the world is a bit more complicated than that which can be explained by a few quotes.

With the argument of doing something you like versus it's profitability; let us take the universal truth, most people do not need trinkets and baubles. Perhaps if they have the money to spare, of if they have something they truly love; then they will spend money on it.

Unless your craft includes valued stones and gems (which are all good investments for the future), most people will not give in their money for something that would be seldom used or moderately valuable stuff. In any case, think as to the value and what your product can give to people. Educate and elucidate the use and practicality of your item in order to coax them to buy.

Belief and practicality are different. Your terms of people will buy this, is different from what actual people need. If the mass doesn't need, or doesn't like your product, don't force it. Simply look for other markets that will readily accept your products. Forcing it will merely provoke reports of unintentional harassment in their part and yours.

When you do find your calling, give it your very best, like your business depends on it. Because it does! Improve upon your trade and give people the aura that it's a good investment. And prove that it is a very good business to settle on. Create networks and socialize to enforce your craft.

Managers in Planning: Food Fests

By Ian Kleine

In planning for a buffet festival, the usual steps in taking a course of action for the planned event should be the same with everything else: a step by step procedure. not to mention that there should be a leader of some sort in order for the whole event to pass off without a hitch or a hassle.

Employ a general manager to over see everything regarding the festival. Involvements, finances, problems and solutions should all be known by the manager and should be seen and intervened. The manager, manages all the elements of the festival, so no detail must be left behind, or anything else mustn't surprise him.

The manager should make sure to identify and know the demographics and the target market he or she is planning to take up. Will it be mostly men or women? Younger or older by age? The manager should also make sure to check first, whether the community wants a festival or not. Talk about scandal if the money will be used for something the town wouldn't agree on.

The manager should secure the venue, do the necessary paper works and guarantee it before anything else. After the approval of the event, he is tasked to do his job of securing everything for the workers to start doing their thing. Programming is also a priority for the manager, as the list of line ups should be satisfying for the large demographic the festival may not cater to.

Budget management should not only limit themselves to handling the funding already present in the community box, but also on the auctions, bids, and income that goes in with the festival. Large companies would usually bid for commercial space or some tables or booths. Other small enterprises in the area would also do the same for publicity. Take advantage of this and manage your cards well.

Like Bees to Honey:Attracting Customers

By Ian Kleine

There are certain strategies to be employed that can help ascertain your position in the local and global market. These are called business strategies, and they usually work by drawing in customers, preventing loss of profit, strengthening assets and securing your liabilities. There are tons of resources out in the market and there is but little of the real deal when it comes to guaranteeing all of these results.

Safe to say that greed is not really a good option when it comes to business dealing. You find yourself wanting more and yet you're receiving less. You find yourself reaching out to gain more, but in the end you lose everything. There are certain issues that you need to fix, certain stuff you need to acquire, certain duties and obligations you need to fulfill, and certain criteria you need to follow.

In attracting customers, you have to have an outlook as to what niche market are you targeting. Are you going for the happy crowd? The depressed crowd? Mood affects the customers, whether they want to buy or not. Surely you're not thinking of putting on a happy mood when you're in the pain-relieving industry, and your customers are pining about their pains and their problems.

Make sure that you convey the message that you understand what they are going through. Customers love it when the company sees them less as cash cows and sees them more as human beings with needs to be fulfilled.

Have a good bit of media coverage as well. Reach out and portray the company that you claim to be. There is a lot of potential that can be covered and a lot of ground to begin with if you want full development on every aspect that needs to be covered. Sooner or later, people will star hoarding in.

Frequent Craft Show Vending Means Needing a Large Stock

By Rick Amorey

The frequency with which you attend craft shows helps determine the amount of time that you will spend preparing for it. Others are content to joining craft shows only occasionally, making it a good source of occasional income. Others go all the way and go to every craft show that they could get to. To them, crafts are their livelihood all throughout. Nothing is wrong with either approach.

In today's article, I will talk about the common problems that you'll encounter when attending craft shows as a constant business. There are many things to keep in mind, and many of these will only occur to you if you've already had experience in the road. In any case, I will try to impart some of what I've learned here.

First of all, get rid of the belief that you'll be able to attend a craft show every weekend. There may be a lot of shows in the country over the year, but don't lead yourself to believe that all of them are worth getting to. Some are just not very nice, and you will only end up losing money if you join them. So choose which craft show you'll attend wisely.

And then, check if you can really afford doing this as a full-time business. It will only take you a couple of shows to realize that income can get really inconsistent. Besides that, you usually only spend a day or two selling. These are other time constraints to consider. You don't get paid extra by working on your crafts now, do you?

So don't forget to check your stock. If you think you can fill up your stocks consistently, then you can go to more craft shows. But in any case; I've never seen anyone pull off a consistent weekly show, unless they knew that's what they were signing up for from the start. My recommendation is to avoid forcing these things.

Costa Rica: Our Photography Tour Of Fiery Arenal Volcano

By Frank Scott

With luggage and camera gear packed in the van by 8 in the morning my new friends and I on my photography tour are off to our first destination, promising to be an outstanding adventure. The excitement is high with everyone getting to know each other and talking cameras and pictures on this their first day.

Our destination is Arenal, an active Costa Rica volcano, but along the way there are some very interesting sights to see and photograph. We stop in Sarchi where decorated, brightly colored ox carts, famous in Costa rica, are made in a water powered factory which is 80 years old. After Sarchi we go to nearby mountainous Zarcero where there is an old wooden church and its amazing double row of beautiful topiaries. With the colours and patterns in Sarchi and the remarkable shapes of the topiaries in Zarcero there is no problem filling the memory cards of our cameras at these stops.

Along the way, the potholes in the roads are many. Our Tico driver, Luis, knows this and so drives extremely cautiously to avoid them. However, it seems like everyone else on two or four wheels pass us. Those passing us seem to believe that they are Formula One contenders and in Costa Rica there is even a bus driver who is known to have passengers find God while on his bus.

After our planned stops and lunch in La Fortuna we are now just a few miles from our lodge at Arenal. As we leave the main highway we find ourselves on a road that is one continuous pothole. It is January and the rainy season has just ended so most roads are in poor condition but what is unique about this road is that it was constructed from crushed lava rock.

In rounding a curve we come upon a clearing at a river and behold, there is Arenal Volcano! The majority of my group have never been face to face with an active volcano and this perfectly shaped volcano is an awesome sight.

The point of the cone is cloaked in puffy white clouds with a beautiful blue sky as a backdrop. We immediately stop and quickly leave the van attaching cameras to tripods. Some of us wade into the river for a better image while some shoot from the riverbanks getting a different perspective.

Of course being this close to an active volcano could be very dangerous but Arenal is quite predictable, a low risk. The lodge is only one and a half kilometers to the base of the volcano and two kilometers to the top of the cone and needless to say, any activity attracts your attention.

Getting settled in while we are unpacking mighty Arenal speaks! It roars as smoke and gas billow hundreds of feet into the sky and we hear the rocks tumbling down the slopes. The Mantled Howler monkeys are extremely vocal following the eruption, however, we do not know if this is in protest of the roar or if they are just responding to its call.

While enjoying our meal in the lodge dining room mighty Arenal speaks again! Although there are many photo opportunities in Costa Rica, who would have imagined that while eating dinner we would be gazing up at a volcano erupting in front of our eyes? And this on our very first day of the tour!

Most of us do not get much sleep for the first two nights. Instead, we find some comfortable chairs in the common area outside our rooms and attach cable releases to our cameras and put them on a tripod. From past experiences I decide to use an 80-200mm lens set at 80mm and an aperture of f8, the camera shutter set at "B" for time exposure.

With the activity of the small flare-ups at the cone and the lava flowing down the opposite side I think a time exposure of more than twenty minutes will produce an ugly yellow blob of light, so if there had been no eruptions after this length of time I will close the shutter and start another exposure. Using a cable release makes these exposures very easy and Arenal puts on quite a display while we are there.

Arenal volcano was the first adventure for my photography group in Costa Rica. Everyone is looking forward to the next eight days and the marvelous and exciting photo opportunities they will have. Pura Vida!

Try London Weekend Breaks For Something Completely Different

By Arthur Townlands

London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, and a great place for taking London weekend breaks. But you can only have so many weekend breaks in London before you become freaked out by all the tourists, so why not try to discover some of London that nobody else knows about.

It is a well known fact that the British Museum is stunning to visit, but if you want to escape the camera clicking tourists, why not try the Hunterian Museum? It is a museum with a difference, there is no charge to get in, and it is one of the best kept secrets in London.

What about a museum of a different kind, for instance the Hunterian? This is one of London's best kept secrets. It is the anatomy of a museum, situated in the Royal College of Surgeons of England. It is a free collection which contains everything from Winston Churchill's dentures to pickled organs. It is the thrill seekers ultimate, and you can see everything which is both curious and gruesome and has to do with the medical field. It recently underwent a 3 million re-vamp, and you will see more than you ever really wanted to.

Not too far from Bromley you will find 22 miles of man-made underground caves. These are the Chilsehurst Caves, and to reach them you get a train from London Bridge. They offer a 45 minute tour of the caves where many people spent their time during the Blitz of London. The tour informs you about the relationship caves have with the Romans, Druids and the Kent Mushroom Co, and quite disconcertingly the guide refers to the world above as "topside".

What about trying the Secret Cinema? This brings a whole new meaning to cinema-going. These days watching a film has really lost its charm, it is all pop-corn, multiplexes and ridiculous ticket prices. Joining the Secret Cinema society could provide you with even more excuses for visiting London, as they screen a "secret" film once a month in an unusual location. You are informed of the location, but don't get to know what film is showing till you arrive, hence the name "Secret Cinema". Once of the most recent screenings was "Paranoid Park" by Gus Van Sant and it took place in an unused railway tunnel.

How to Travel the World

By Gary Ardnt

Traveling around the world is great but if not done in the right way, could turn into a horrible experience. There are only a few tips and trick you need to know. Travel isn't as hard as people think but does require to do some things and make some plans. Here are some tips that will help you in your travels as you make your way around the world.

One of the most important things to remember when you travel is to watch yourself. A lot of people leave common sense behind them when they go overseas. However, just because you are in a different place doesn't mean safety should go out the window. While tourist areas in most country are safe, you do need to watch out for pickpockets and touts. Make sure you where a money belt and always say no to people who come up to you to sell things.

Another tactic involves mixing up your usual routine: carry your money tucked away in a sock or in your sleeve - don't have it hanging out like bait in a clunky wallet in your back pants pocket or jingling around your jeans in a money clip. Also, they sell specialized belts which contain zippered compartments to help avoid pickpockets. However, one should keep in mind that if these methods are available than most criminals know of them and can plan accordingly so, more important than specialized clothing or tactics is to simply stay alert and know your surroundings.

That being said, being familiar with your surroundings is perhaps the second most important tip to carry with you when traveling abroad. Try to stay in main tourist areas or on busy and well lit and open streets and throughways. If you need to travel into more "local" spots be sure you go during day time and always with people you trust and who can speak the local tongue if you yourself are not able to do so.

Moreover, it's helpful for you to be aware of the location of all local law enforcement buildings and offices and, if there is one in the country you find yourself in, the location of the embassy of your home nation. Countless world travelers have returned home with stories of both joy and horror that rested or fell on how well a traveler knew his surroundings. So in short, play it safe and stay close to others in your travel party or those your trust.

If you use these tips and advice on your next world travel trip, then you will be able to have a much more enjoyable time. These tips will keep you safe, help you travel easier, carry less, spend less, and interact with the locals more. It's a tall order but one these tips fulfill.

San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua - A Charmed Life For Investors

By Jane A Moore

San Juan del Sur has much to offer for any type of real estate investor. There is a remarkable diversity of people who have come to call this town home, whether they are investors, building a second home, or have moved here full time. The small seaside village has kept it's Nicaraguan cultural roots even though there are many world influences and tourist conveniences.

Historically San Juan del Sur was a sleepy fishing village. It is still estimated that 25% of the local families make their livings on the water. The Bay of San Juan del Sur is spotted with bobbing pangas. There are also a few larger boats that can go out on multi-day fishing trips but these are the exception. Most of the fish served in San Juan are caught from small panagas using hand held lines. And what a catch it is! The village is a great place to savor dorado, mackerel, grouper, yellow fin tuna or rooster fish caught the same day.

A popular attraction in Nicaragua is sport fishing, and many of these sport fishing expeditions leave from the bay of San Juan Del Sur. The type of boat you can charter all depends on your budget - there are top notch luxury sports fishing outfits, ranging all the way down to the open hull Pangas outfitted with a cooler in the middle for extra seating. Regardless of how fancy your boat is, your luck is probably more dependant on finding an experienced captain.

Even more than sport fishing San Juan is probably better known for its world class surfing. With 360 days per year of off shores breezes and a consistent swell the surf breaks here are very reliable. Playa Remanso, Playa Hermosa and Playa Yankee also have excellent surf and are all located with 15 kilometres south of the village. However, the most popular beach for surfing is Playa Maderas which is located 10 kilometers north of the village. For those with a car and a good nights sleep, you can take in a round of golf on the same day that you surf Panga Drops or Colorado surf breaks.

There are a multitude of other activities to keep you busy in San Juan del Sur. There is a wonderful art gallery that tries to have new shows regularly, a dance troupe that performs twice weekly, a variety of social events and festivals and a library with a large English language section. There are poker groups, sailing trips and movie nights, yoga studios and a new state of the art fitness facility.

Those that like finer dining will not be disappointed. El Pozo and El Colibri are always a treat and you can't beat Italian pizza and pasta made with Italian know-how. With all of the restaurants and bistros available in San Juan del Sur, it can be difficult to stay home for dinner.

You just need to visit San Juan Del Sur to experience for yourself what life is like when everyone around you has a different set of values, and life is for living rather than getting ahead. Regardless of the fact that real estate investors have long ago known that this would be a remarkably successful vacation spot, the rest of the world just seems to be catching on now. Come and discover for yourself!

Benefits of All-Inclusive Holidays

By Pat Webber

Today's travelers are looking for more ways of saving on holidays trips owing to the current economic times that are prevalent in many parts of the world. Some are even choosing to cut down on their holiday travel preferring instead to route their money into savings. But regardless of the tough times, there are still many travelers who have an undying passion for traveling will not cut down but instead they seek innovative ways to save money. These are termed smart travelers and are very knowledgeable regarding holiday deals when it comes to their airline tickets, car rental, hotel and other vacation-related expenses. They instead prefer to pay one fee which covers the airfare, the hotel expenses, the car rental and tours. These types of travel packages have become very popular and have become known as all-inclusive holidays.

Money is not the only item that motivates bargain-hunting travelers and tour operators understand this. Time is also essential to these travelers and the process of finding a good holiday destination that makes sense is also part of shopping smart hence the popularity of all-inclusive holidays. All-inclusive holidays provide some serious advantages for the travelers and we shall examine these next.

One advantage of all-inclusive holidays is that they save the traveler time. In the past, the traveler had to contact the different airlines and try to cut a deal. Since there are very many airlines, one had to contact many of them in order to settle for the one that had the best prices. A shorter way was to deal with a travel agency. Then after securing the best airline they had to contact the hotels in the country of destination. This was also another ordeal because there was little or no information on which hotels were out there. Finally one had to figure out how to get around when they got there. That meant searching for car rentals with little or no information not to mention there was little or no way of knowing what one was signing up for or what really awaited them. All-inclusive holiday tours eliminate all that. For one super-low price, the trip organizer will organize the airline ticket, the hotel, the car rental and even the tours of the destination. All this is a tremendous time-saver.

All-inclusive holidays are also cheaper. This is because the airlines, the hotels and the car rental companies have joined hands and decided to offer these packages to customers at reduced prices. They understand that the lower the prices, the more the customers they will get and this will translate into overall profits. It therefore makes sense to get an all-inclusive holiday package rather than try to buy the package deals individually.

All-inclusive packages are also more convenient than regular travel deals. One can easily buy the deals online at popular travel websites such as Travelocity and Expedia. One need not traverse other travel agencies to find deals. Everything is located on one website and with one click and one payment can secure an all-inclusive holiday package.

Five Fun Activities All Visitors Should Do While In Cardiff-By-The-Sea California

By Terry Hunefeld

The San Diego beach town of Cardiff-By-The-Sea is different from other Southern California beach communities. How so? Well, there's our "Magic Carpet Ride" sculpture, a vast ecological reserve with hundreds of species of birds, the vast Pacific Ocean, incredible warm and sunny sandy beaches, a "restaurant row" with some of the best food in San Diego, hotels in Cardiff lodge bed and breakfasts and great surf breaks.

1. Go For A Magic Carpet Ride

Look for our $120,000 surfing statue right across Old Historic Highway 101 from the Cardiff Lodge, on the bluffs above Cardiff State Beach. You're looking for a bronze sculpture of a young surfer dude with his arms stretched out, supposedly riding a wave. The bronze is entitled "Magic Carpet Ride" and the locals have been highly steamed about the statue ever since it was unveiled July, 2008. Local surfers complain that the surfer's pose does not capture the essence of surfing. Called sissy by some and just too dog-gone feminine by others, surfers have had a field day dressing the statue in pink skirts, stuffed animals, bikini tops, bikini bottoms, lingerie, Fruit-Of-The-Looms and glittering wands. It is one of a kind.

2. Watch The Surfers At Cardiff Reef

Cardiff Reef is a highly popular stretch of sandy beach for walking, sunning and surfing. It's located at the channel mouth of San Elijo Lagoon. Long-board surfers like it because it there is an extensive soft sandy bottom along with slow, easy waves. People enjoy great views of rookies and experts alike from the State Beach benches and picnic tables. Cardiff has a big selection of surfer talent - from rookie beginners all the way to seasoned pros. If you stay at one of the bed and breakfasts in Cardiff, be sure to reserve a table for lunch on the outdoor patios of one of the restaurants and you will have the best surfer-views in the house.

3. Take A Hike On The Wild Side

San Diego County's largest coastal wetland is San Elijo Lagoon, situated along the ocean between Cardiff and Solana Beach. This lush habitat supports 305 plus species of plants, 22 species of fish, 23 species of reptiles and amphibians, more than 20 species of mammals and upwards of 300 species of birds. The new San Elijo Lagoon visitor's center on Manchester Avenue is open daily to the public free of charge. More than seven miles of hiking and jogging trails branch out from the visitor's center, so bring your walking/jogging shoes.

4. Work On Your Tan

Cardiff State Beach is a wonderful place to work on that tan, enjoy a picnic, watch surfers, or try your hand at surfing, boogie-boarding or body surfing. It has been called the Riviera of the West because it has a gently sloping sandy beach with warm water. The site offers swimming, surfing and beachcombing, people-watching and relaxing after a night at a Cardiff lodge bed and breakfast.

5. Enjoy The Sunset From Your Private Hot Tub

Just 2 miles up Historic Highway 101 from Cardiff-By-The-Sea is a romantic inn located on a hillside above Moonlight Beach in the beach town of Encinitas: The Inn at Moonlight Beach. The Inn has four lovely guest suites overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Penthouse Suite is a favorite for honeymooners and those celebrating their anniversaries because it has its own private balcony and hot tub with phenomenal view of the Pacific Ocean sunsets.

Creme Brulee Kids Consignment Sale at Kent, Washington

By Mara Hernandez-Capili

Kids really act way beyond their ages these days. I once saw my friend's 3 year old brother open up the computer and started playing games on it. I was really amazed? You know why? The kid can barely walk! I wonder what these kids are still up to and what else these tiny tots can do.

Every year the organizers of this event, "Just Kids" always see to it that they offer something unique and memorable for the participants and their families to enjoy. This statement made me remember an event that is due at Kent in Washington which overall talks about flashing kids' talents. I'm talking about the Crme Brulee Kids Consignment Sale. Last year the event was entitled, "Mums and Daughters Cook-off". It was a fun event which was participated by over 50 mother and daughter tandem. Luckily, my daughter Alara and I grabbed the second prize for our "Heavensent" cake recipe.

Other contestants loved the original idea also. For last year we designed our cake with our names and with Alara drawing a mom and a little girl face enclosed in a heart symbol. The "Heavensent" Cake is actually a chocolate cake with a custard and chocolate filling. It was wrapped in a delicious chocolate and vanilla icing. We had fun doing this cake most especially when the judges loved it.

My Alara is one of the contestants again and as early as now, we are researching for the great tasting creme brulee recipes we could possibly find. The Creme Brulee contest will gather all talented kids all over the State to fire up their own version of unique Creme Brulee. I get first hand taste of her crme brulee and I must admit that she is very excellent in what she can do.

Pottery Fairs

By Ian Kleine

I have always been skeptical about the concept of doing and selling pottery at shows and at fairs.

You see, the cons of using pottery to rake in a good base and money outweigh that of the pros of indulging in pottery. I rarely would recommend pottery to an entrepreneur. But of course, one would hear the success stories of pottery entrepreneurs. So here are a few personal experiences that I hope would make it easier for you to decide whether pottery is a good thing for you, or a no-no.

For one thing, pottery skills are needed to bring your talent to levels acceptable for consumers to buy your product. Unless you have natural talent and have been honing your skills, you would have to invest in buying yourself a good book, paying a tutor, or going to a pottery skill to invest in yourself.

Second, pottery materials. You need the equipment, you need the materials, and you certainly need the time and the patience. Pottery requires mixing, molding, tempering and baking. If you cannot routinely follow these, then it is best you drop the idea.

The big difference with pottery at shows is the change of venue. There are a lot of things to be done. For one thing, preparation of the prepared pieces of earthenware would require you to transport the heavy stuff from your shop to the site.

The second one is the inclusion of demos in your booth. This is a BIG thing.

Having demos in your booth actually keeps people interested in your work and in your final product. It doesn't have to come out finished like that. You can just leave it in the mold, or dramatically bake it in the kiln. Just let people know how pots are done.

Sell at shows that target the upper crust of society. The common people, with the stories of recession and laying-off at jobs, won't easily buy into your wares. Pots are mainly ornamental, less functional. Unless you're doing something along the lines of tea cups and tea pots that would put most factories to shame, I suggest you start something ornamental, cheap and functional. Like paper weights for example.

The Seven Great Wonders

By Gary Ardnt

In July 7 of 2007, which is 7/7/7 if you look in the calendar, the modern seven wonders of the world have been voted upon by the world. These modern seven wonders are now The Taj Mahal of India, Christ Redeemer of Brazil, Chichn Itz in Mexico, The Roman Colosseum in Italy, Great Wall of China, Petra of Jordan and Machu Picchu in Peru. The following is some information of on these Seven Wonders of the World.

The Taj Mahal of India is a gigantic mausoleum built under the command of Emperor Shah Jahan, which is a Muslim Moghul emperor, to honor the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It was built out of white marble and surrounded by gardens. This structure is the pride of India's Muslim art.

Easter Island is another place that has great value and is worth seeing. There has been much controversy over the origins of the Easter Islanders. The population of Easter Island reached its peak at perhaps more than 10,000, far exceeding the capabilities of the small islands ecosystem. Resources became scarce, and the palm forests were destroyed for agriculture and moving the massive stone Moai. Now all that is really left of this ancient culture are these statues.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English town of Salisbury. One of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and sits at the center of the densest complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments. The site is over 4,000 years old and was used as a place to mark the summer and winter solstice.

The Machu Picchu in Peru is a city built in the 15th century on the orders of Incan Emperor Pachactec. It was built on the mountain called Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is one of the most recognizable marks of the Inca Empire and is commonly referred to as The Lost City of the Incas. You can get up there by taking a four day hike up the very popular Inca Trail which offers beautiful views of the surroundings.

It is most important that we protect these sites in our travels. Many of them are thousands of years old and were left to be reclaimed by the elements for centuries. Remember to visit these sites in a sustainable way. They are a gift from our past and should be kept for the future. Visit these sites to learn about the history of humans and give to their conservation so others can see these historic wonders.
