Flights - How Can You Cope With Fear Of Flying When On Vacation?

By Dorothy Yamich

Fear of flying is called Aviophobia, and millions of vacationers and business flyers who travel on commercial flights worldwide are affected by it, to a greater or lesser extent. Even though air travel is approximately thirty times safer than traveling by car, you hardly hear about people that have a fear of driving. Maybe television, radio, internet and print media contribute to this fear when they graphically cover commercial airline crashes and the large number of air passengers that are injured or perish.

Fear of flying on commercial flights can be triggered by a number of concerns such as the fear of heights, the fear of falling, the fear of the takeoff and the landing, the fear of crashing, the fear of flying over water, the fear of flying at night, the feeling of losing control causing panic attacks, air turbulence, stormy weather, the fear of hijackers or terrorists, motion sickness, and claustrophobia such as the fear of being trapped in the confined space of an airline cabin as well as being packed in like sardines with your fellow passengers, and also other phobias.

Some of the other symptoms of the fear of flying can be mild nervousness to extreme anxiety and panic attacks, a shortness of breath and tightness in your chest, chest pains, clammy hands, headaches, as well as nausea and vomiting.

If you think that your fear of flying is very severe, you can enroll in an intensive treatment program, However, if youre sure your fear of flying is not severe, there are some things you can do that may help to remedy this problem.

Firstly, sit in a seat that is over the airplane wings, preferably not a window seat, so you cant look down at the ground. When you sit over the wings you will also experience a smoother flight.

If possible, leave your seat belt on as much as possible, so if any air turbulence suddenly occurs, you wont get jarred or bounced about as much.

Eat light and try to avoid eating or drinking any food or beverage that contains sugar, caffeine, or alcohol.

It will help if you try to stay positive and always think only of positive thoughts.

You can occupy your mind by listening to soft, soothing music on your I-Pod.

Sometimes it may help to wear eye shades and sleep if you can.

You may feel less stressed if you can book flights at off-peak times as there are usually fewer airline passengers to contend with.

If you are thinking of taking any prescription or over-the-counter drugs to calm yourself down on your flight, be sure that you consult first with your family doctor or pharmacist. Keep in mind that if you are already taking prescriptions for pre-existing conditions, any new medication, even the over-the-counter ones, may interact adversely with them.

I have a true story that may help you with this problem. A number of years ago a good friend of mine had a real problem with the fear of flying. He was really concerned about dying in a plane crash. A funny thing is that he had no problem driving all over the country, or taking a bus or train when he traveled on his holidays.

Fortunately he got a job selling ads for a local community newspaper near a busy international airport. As he drove around to sell advertising to the stores in the area, he constantly observed huge commercial airliners taking off and landing every few minutes. He got used to hearing the deafening roar of airline engines day in and day out. Slowly, he eventually started to lose his fear of flying.

He finally made the big decision to vacation in Hawaii, which he had always wanted to do. The only obstacle was that he had no choice but to fly. He then took out flight insurance in case the plane crashed. He wanted to be sure he would leave something for his parents if he didnt get back.

Before boarding the plane he took a sleeping pill hoping would keep him calm. He deliberately booked a window seat because he really wanted to be able to see where he was going and what the earth and ocean looked like from the air.

When the flight attendant told all the passengers to fasten their seat belts, he cinched his belt up so tightly he thought that it would break. On the long flight to Hawaii he only removed his seat belt to go to the washroom. During the flight the only thing that really annoyed him was that his ears got plugged and hurt because of the changes in cabin pressure on the takeoff and landing. A helpful fellow passenger suggested that he should chew some gum and that seemed to solve the problem.

When he eventually landed in Hawaii he was so proud of himself! After all those wasted years of being hung up on that debilitating phobia, he finally had broken free. All it took was working near a large airport and watching as well as hearing the constant takeoffs and landings of these huge commercial airliners to reprogram his mind.

If you happen to have a fear of flying you must try and rid yourself of this debilitating, irrational fear. I know that your life will be changed forever when you break free and allow yourself to soar with the eagles and fly anywhere in this big, wide, wonderful world that you want to.

Your Catalina Island Vacation is just a short ferry ride away.

By Captain Marcos D. Gardo

Santa Catalina Island is part of the beautiful Channel Islands Archipelago, which stretches for miles along the Southern California coast. Just 22 miles long and 8 miles wide, rugged and beautiful Catalina Island is home to some of the richest marine diversity in the world. Catalina Island is the only Channel Island that is developed, but most of the island is still protected, and most the inhabitants are concentrated in the town of Avalon.

Located approximately 22 miles south-southwest of Los Angeles, Catalina Island makes the island a perfect destination for weekend vacations, honeymoons, weddings and day trips. There are many different ways to enjoy the Island including sport fishing, sailing, diving, hiking and camping, golf and more. Each one of these activities shares a rich history and lineage connected with the island.

The majority of the island's residents are concentrated in the port town of Avalon, with 300 or so more in the more remote Two Harbors. Islanders typically work in the tourism industry in some way, some are artisans, baoting enthusiasts, or retirees. All supplies must be shipped in from the mainland, making fuel, groceries and just about everything else expensive and prone to shortages. There are strict regulations regarding motor vehicles on the island so resident use modified golf cart to get around. These things add to the island's charm and easy pace of life.

The island is managed by the Catalina Island Conservancy, whose mission it is to restore and protect the original flora and fauna. Interestingly, the Conservancy is also responsible for managing the wild buffalo, which were brought in and left behind by a film production over 50 years ago.

Golf carts are easy to rent, but bicycles are the easiest way to explore the narrow street and interact with friendly locals. guided tours provide a great, inexpensive way to learn about the island's rich history.

Lodging is available for all budgets, including budets accomodations, spa resorts, vacation rentals and small intimate inns. There are plenty of activities to fill day trips or stays of a few days or more with great dining, boutique shops, tours, and adventures to keep visitors interested. Catalina Island is like another world compared to the California mainland, and is close enough to make weekend trips easy and affordable.

How to pack for for a family vacation in order to survive travelling with your kids.

By Jennifer Hess

Spending a vacation with your family is a great opportunity to have quality time with each other. It enhances the relationships among family members and thickens the bonds. It is a time for relaxation and enjoyment. Here are some packing ideas to help you enjoy it more.

Teaching your kids to pack their own things will make the vacation more exciting for them. It is better to assist your children when packing and ensure that they pack only what they actually need to bring along. Label each bag according to its owner. To maximize the usage of space and to pack more clothes in your backpack, tightly roll the clothes. Pack the light clothes before the heavy ones.

Pack comfortable clothes that are appropriate to the weather of the place that you are going to. Be sure to have your sun hats, sunglasses and sun cream lotion. Don't forget to pack one jacket and long pants for each member of the family for them to wear in a cold night.

Make sure to pack interesting games for the children in order to keep them busy. Long trips can be boring and games with lots of interaction between family members can make them fun. Bring special toys for the younger ones. You might want to buy a few new items since new toys are always more interesting.

Prepare some snacks and refreshments that you will be eating during the trip. Pack some diapers and baby wipes for your baby. Ask the family what they want to eat during the trip so you can prepare it before you go. This will save you some cash.

You should always be prepared, so don't forget to pack your first aid kit. Bring a flashlight and some extra batteries too. Pack some medicine for headaches and colds, and bring a container for medicine that anybody needs to take on a daily basis.

Be ready with your camera and fully charged batteries. You will want to capture all the precious moments during the vacation. If you are planning to take pictures while swimming, buy a waterproof camera to ensure that every moment is captured.

See to it that you have already paid your bills. Start planning at least two weeks before the date of your departure to ensure that all things are in order. A planned vacation is a worry-free vacation.

How to Survive a Music Festival

By Ian Kleine

The summer is almost nigh, and there are a ton of music festivals that are just popping across open fields and busy highways. It's the season of music festivals, and a lot of road trippers, ragers, ravers and enthusiasts that are just giddy with excitement as they try and scour the countryside, never missing a single festival. After all, the summer is ending and the spirit of celebrating is still in everyone's mind (think of Spring Break if you have to).

However, the grounds of a music festival can be just as dangerous as an unprotected trek into the wilderness. There are dangers lurking abound, whether it be from nature, or from your co-fans themselves. There is injury, madness, disease and other dangers just waiting for someone to light their fuse. Protect yourself by keeping away from these dangers, or at least minimizing the factors that may induce them.

First off, two heads are always, ALWAYS better than one. If you're going into a music week out, then buddy up with someone you trust (or at least someone who is as level-headed or more than you are!) That way, you can watch out for each others backs, make sure that your things and other paraphernalia are taken care of, and should anything unbelievable happen, you have a second opinion. Hey, who knows? You might get to see an alien and then nobody would believe you this side of town.

Speaking of your paraphernalia, let's talk about tents. Now I know, that most people, after a good night's partying and hanging out, would be too groggy to even fix up their own tent and just leave it at the grounds. Sure, your thoughts could be in "Oh, I'm doing the world a favor. It's for charity."

Seriously, if you're thinking about the world, then pack it up and use it next year. Most tents end up in the dump anyway.

On Safari in Southern Tanzania - Discover the Mnazi Bay Marine Park

By Sam Njihia

Tanzania's south coast is an ideal Africa holiday destination, more so for travelers seeking to avoid the often crowded national parks and game reserves in the country's north. The idyllic beaches around the Swahili town of Mtwara, plus the Mnazi Bay Marine Park are just some of the beach destinations that rival similar vacation spots in northern Tanzania.

If you are an adventure travel enthusiast, you can have lots of fun in Southern Tanzania. The experience of traveling in the African country without the usual tourist crowds is in itself very rewarding. You get to explore such sites as unspoilt beaches on the Indian ocean coast, a number of swahili ruins, among other attractions.

Mtwara is the gateway into Southern Tanzania for tourism and business alike. Access to and from Dar es Salaam is easy with frequent and regular flights and sailings. Mtwara is a laid back town and is spread out over a large area. The town is close to the Mnazi Bay Marine Park where it is possible to experience some of the most isolated dive sites on the coast. The town makes an excellent stop-over for trips to the Marine Park.

Some time in the past, Mnazi bay was the take-off port for sea travel to Mozambique, by dhow. Today however, the main attraction is the white sand beaches, and the coral reefs which provide very memorable snorkeling experience. Visitors can explore the coral reefs even when the tide is low.

There is a profuse bird life in the Mnazi Bay Marine park, with waders being the most abundant. Common bird species found here include the Zanzibar black-bellied glossy-starling, the brown-headed parrot, the mangrove kingfisher, the crab clover, and the greater sand-clover.

Mnazi bay marine park has earned an international recognition because of its biodiversity. There are many varieties of mangroves found here, plsu sea grass beds and coral reefs, all of which are an important source of livelihood for the communities residing nearby.

The Rawira peninsula lies on the seaward side of Mnazi bay at the south, while on the north are several small islands. The Tanzania government has plans to open up the area more for tourism, considering that it is ideally situated as a place for resting and unwinding after a Tanzania safari in the southern safari circuit. Since the neighboring communities actively participate in managing the park, they stand to benefit even more from tourism in the park.

International gateway to Southern Tanzania is the city of Dar es Salaam. Known as Haven of Peace by its aficionados, Dar es Salaam can be reached through regional hubs at Nairobi and Johannesburg and to a lesser extent Addis Ababa. Dar es Salaam airport is also accessed from other Tanzania airports that serve domestic as well as international flights. These include Kilimanjaro International Airport and Dodoma airport among many others. There is a ferry service between Mombasa in Kenya and Dar es Salaam.

Finding The Cheapest Flights Online

By Clara Harrison

There are a few tips to keep in mind when looking for the cheapest flights. The internet is a great tool that can provide you a lot of information in moments. However when shopping around you need to remember to be flexible.

This can be difficult depending on your work. Instead of getting locked into a rigid vacation schedule you can ask your boss if you can be flexible with your vacation time. You will need to bring this up far in advance to when you are interested in taking vacation.

If you are unable to be flexible about when you can take vacation you can at least be flexible about the days that you fly and your times of departure. Flying on off days such as Tuesdays and Thursdays will have cheaper tickets then flying on a Monday or Friday.

You also need to be flexible at the time of day your flight leaves as red eye flights are the least expensive followed by middle of the day and then evening flights. Flights that are first thing in the morning tend to be expensive as many business individuals fly these flights to make business meetings.

Where you fly from and to can also affect the ticket price. Many times flying from a large airport hub will be less expensive then a smaller regional airport. You do need to be careful as this is not true of all areas.

However you do need to make comparisons as flying from some large hubs can be more expensive then flying from smaller towns, it depends on the area.

The best way to get cheap airfare is to fly during the off season. Going someplace tropical during the winter months will be expensive as everyone is looking to travel to a warmer climate.

If you can wait for the spring or autumn then you will be able to find airfare for as much as half the price of the peak tickets. If you are a frequent traveller then you should take advantage of frequent flyer clubs, as you may eventually be able to receive a free ticket.

Lovely California Beach Inns In Encinitas

By Heather Hunnefeld

Encinitas is a little town located on the Pacific Ocean about 20 minutes north of San Diego airport. It's just like a 1960's California beach town. Hand made jewelery shops, the world famous Swami's Mediation Retreat, more than two dozen yoga studios and spas, a dozen Mexican take-out restaurants, and locals and tourists alike walking around with surf boards give Encinitas a 1960's feeling.

Ann Dunham, a native of Michigan, runs a little four-room Bed and Breakfast Inn that she calls the "Inn at Moonlight Beach." The Inn overlooks the ocean; Moonlight Beach is just two blocks away - no other Inns in coastal San Diego are closer to the ocean. Moonlight Beach is the most popular beach in Encinitas because it's a great spot to get some warm sun, have a little picnic, get involved in a game of beach volleyball, go surfing, try a boogie-board, body surf in the great waves, just relax and read a book or watch people.

The lovely suites at Ann's Inn At Moonlight Beach are decorated like the rooms you'd find in a French Country Inn. Each suite has a private bath and refrigerator. What makes Ann's Inn really special is that she bakes her guests delicious home-made, warm-from-the-oven cakes and pastries along with their breakfasts every morning.

Guests at the Inn might begin their day with a walk on the beach in either direction at the crack of dawn and then return to the Inn for Ann's home-made breakfast - all included in the cost of the night's stay. Swami's Beach was made famous in 1963 by the Beach Boys and is just a ten minute walk along the sandy beach where world class surfers still surf every morning.

If you stay at Ann's Inn, you will awaken in the morning to the sounds of the of her meditative waterfall. You can drift back to sleep take a walk or jog along Moonlight Beach as Encinitas awakens.

After any morning activities, guests can relax at the Inn with a cup of fresh, hot Starbucks coffee and Ann's home-made breakfast as they enjoy the local newspaper or Wall Street Journal in the breakfast room or outside in the sunshine.

After sunset, guests can take a romantic moonlit walk on the beach or simply relax on the Inn's front porch and sip a glass of wine, enjoying the evening twilight over the ocean and the little "lost-in-time" town of Encinitas. When they're ready for bed, guests can snuggle down into their fine cotton bed linens, down-filled pillows and comforters and let the calming songs of the outside waterfall lull them to sleep.

Encinitas is a wonderful place to live and to visit. No other beach town in the San Diego area has such a great selection of restaurants from Mexican take-out to fine Italian dining. If you come to visit, bring your appetite!

Encinitas is blessed with 6 miles of gorgeous beaches - eleven of them. So if you want surfing, swimming, scuba diving, boogie-boarding, sunning, reading a book, jogging, volley-balling or just basking in the serenity of a secluded beach, Encinitas has it all.

Best Long Distance Movers - 5 Clues To Move Along

By Sharonne Penickata

An interstate move is often quite stressful. Having to trust a long distance moving company to take one's belongings across state lines and deliver them on time and in one piece is not something anyone looks forward to face.

Sometimes, moving take us hundreds of miles from our home town to new states, or even countries. Coast to coast moving is quite a challenge and it requires to plan with a greater level of details.

Interstate moves take a toll on families because often times, kids would miss out on seeing their grandparents as often as they are used to. You'll see an increase in expenses to stay in touch with parents once your official residence is out of the state.

You could find having to go through a little bit of adjustment if you move back to your home town. Relocating near by a family member whether be the husband's or the wife's could results in a great deal of help or perhaps interference - depending on how you look at it. In any event, it's all a benefit, once realistic expectations are set.

The national move itself should be planned the same way as you would any other move but remember, the farther out you move, the more cash you'll need. In simple terms, a four hundred mile relocation could cost you the same doing it yourself as opposed to hiring a mover. A cross country move might not be all that attractive to drive it yourself. It may be easier just to hire a long distance mover to help you with the loading, transporting of your stuff, and finally unloading the trailer at your new place.

Keep in mind that your state to state move will mean a different district for your children's schooling. Making your long distance move could open up new doors professionally, but you would have to be willing to let go of old habits to allow new settings to take roots.

Here's a few steps you should follow.

1. To What Degree Should Movers Help You?

There are also more and more 'complete' package companies springing up, designed especially for professionals - allowing them to move to their jobs, without the hassle of it all. These companies do it all - from finding a suitable house within your price range and requirements, to packing you and moving you in, some even unpack at the other end for you.

2. Build A Small Pool Of Moving Companies To Review Further.

Consult with other consumers in your area and see what have been their experiences with these interstate movers. Did they sound like they knew what they were talking about?

Another resource is to Google various long distance movers and search for any customer feedback. Other people's experiences will delight and benefit you - reinforcing or discrediting your choice.

3. Require Movers Quotes.

Request the nationwide moving company to give you your best friend in the market - cross country moving quotes about their moving services. Be sure to get three to five cross country movers quotes and do your research before making any final decisions. Being just a bit familiar with the moving industry is essential to avoid scams and only be charged a fair market price for your out of state move.

4. Reputable Moving Companies Should Offer You An On-Site Quote.

Remember that this on-site moving review should bare no costs to you at all and national moving companies also use it to be more certain that the long distance moving estimates are as accurate as possible. These nationwide moving companies should also provide you with a complete overview of their insurance - review it carefully so you're sure of what they cover and what you're liable for, should the worst happen.

5. Itemize Every State To State Moving Expense.

You definitely want to anticipate every possible expense and every reason why you could not take up possession of your property when the moving company arrives at your new home. For instance, there is a strong possibility that your cargo will be taken to the moving company's warehouse and you'll be expected to pay for storage and moving your belongings back from the warehouse to your home - imagine the new additional expenses you could incur - definitely you do want to avoid that chance.

Take your time to understand every thing on your moving contract even the smallest items. Your final paper should outline every expense even the so called "hidden" charges should be brought to light.

Sometimes the most difficult part about planning a vacation is choosing where to go. Trying to determine just one location is extremely difficult when there are so many to choose from. Every week I get at least one new free travel brochure in the mail. The different travel packages look great. However, I have always wanted to switch up the locations to design my personal vacation package. So, that is exactly what I did.

Using the information from the free travel guide I received, I designed my dream vacation. When you plan your personalized vacation you have the license to hand picked each destination. You can specify the number days you will spend in each location. You get to select where you stay. If you want to stay in five star hotel or stay in a motel, the choice is yours to make. Planning your dream vacation is easier than you think.

Before the Internet, you would have needed to take your free travel guide to a travel agency to design your dream vacation. However, now all you need to know are a few key websites. When planning your dream vacation here are a few steps you may want to follow:

The first step is to determine where you want to go. If, you want to visit more than one location make sure each destination geographically make sense. A Taste of Porthleven Cornwall - Historic Fishing Village

By Mike Carter

The historic village of Porthleven, Cornwall is the most southerly working harbour in mainland UK. The harbour exists today due to HMS Anson being wrecked on Loe Bar on December 29th 1807. Tobias Roberts, a hero that day, swam through stormy seas out to the Anson. A rope was tied around Tobias enabling him to create an escape route for those on board. Although he successfully reached the ship, over one hundred crew perished including the ship's Captain Lydiard.

Appalled by the loss of life, Tobias Roberts battled with Admiralty and locals alike to ensure there was a harbour of safe refuge to avoid such an incident in the future.. Being a man of determination Porthleven Harbour was constructed and then improved at a later date. It took two acts of Parliament before the harbour became what it is today, home to a much reduce number of fishermen, no commercial traffic of any size and small number of pleasure craft.

However, the harbour still plays a major role attracting visitors from all over the world. Of course the village received the attention of the media when it was hit by a hurricane in December 1989. Television coverage was worldwide, showing the destructive storm with its monster waves spraying seaweed and shingle over 72 feet or 22 metres, the height of Porthleven's clock tower, part of the Institute Buildings. Over the years village has attracted film and television programme makers helping to promote Porthleven's natural unspoilt attraction.

During the early 1990's whilst serving on the local council, it became obvious that Porthleven's economic future would become more dependent on the holiday trade. With this in mind the village's first commercial website was established and this continues to attract visitors from around the globe. In addition tourist signs were introduced and we publicised the village in a variety of ways including the Discover Porthleven leaflet now produced annually.

Television coverage was worldwide, showing the devastating storm with spray from monster waves reaching heights over 72 feet or 22 metres, the height of Porthleven's land mark, the clock tower forming part of the Institute Buildings. The village has attracted film and television programme makers all helping to advertise Porthleven's natural unspoilt attraction.

Porthleven has a number of quality self catering cottages, B&B and hotels placed around the harbour, above the beach and within the village many of which command views of the bay, the harbour or surrounding countryside. There are three Inns, the oldest being the Ship Inn. According to a local legend and the BBC resident ghosts have been experienced.

Bermuda hosts several regular callers in its ports every cruise season, which is April through November. The most frequent cruise lines to send ships are Carnival, Norwegian Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity so you will have plenty of cruises to choose from.

There are three ports to choose from in Bermuda, but only two are accessible by the largest cruise ships that now frequent the island. Kings Wharf and St. George are the two largest ports.

Kings Wharf has more modern amenities with lots of activity going on in the area. At Kings Wharf, you will find the Royal Naval Dockyard and Bermuda Maritime Museum, as well as restaurants and shopping. St. Georges offers a quieter port with historic cobbled streets, quaint shops, and museums. Here you can take a walk back in history with its largely untouched architecture from the 17th century.

There is no need to worry about missing out on either port - Bermuda is only 21 miles long so it is easy to travel between them to check out all the sites. In Bermuda there are no rental cars to so you can take public buses, ferries or even rent scooters to get around the island.

Cruise to Bermuda for the beautiful scenery and friendly people. You will not be disappointed in your Bermuda cruise vacation.

All Inclusive Corporate Incentive Travel Great Deal for All

By Carrie Plescan

An all-inclusive incentive travel deal can save you money, and that's good news for corporate groups! If you are looking at motivating your employees and presenting them an incentive travel trip, all-inclusive deals make a lot of sense.

For one, these all-inclusive bargains save you a great deal of money as everything is included in a single package. By 'everything' we mean, hotel, food, special facilities and activities as well as sight seeing. A few all-inclusive resorts also throw in additional benefits such as flight bookings and airport transfers. Overall, it's a top-notch deal, isn't it?!

All-inclusive incentive travel bargains not just save money, but they also make sure you have a relaxed stay since the resort manages all the details.

In these times of economic troubles, you cannot altogether avoid incentive programs for your employees. Those employees who work hard all through the year deserve some form of celebration or reward for their contribution. Corporate incentives for example presents and tickets for a sporting event often work just right, however nothing equates to an incentive travel deal.

An incentive travel program is as important as any other program that adds to business skills of employees. Thus, all-inclusive travel deals that facilitate keeping down costs are essential, too.

Be sure about your requirements prior to finalizing any all-inclusive travel bargain. Different vacation resorts provide various types of all-inclusive programs. Some of the resorts might have beachfront location that may imply a lot of water based activities. Some resorts might be placed on hilly terrains that could facilitate lots of trekking or hiking activities. Based on your employees' likes, you could opt for a proper theme for your incentive travel program.

Antarctica: A Sight to Behold

By Jeff Paulett

Antarctica is the fifth largest continent, extending 14 million square kilometres (apprx. 9 million square miles) where 98% of the mass is an ice sheet over 1 mile thick and 2% barren rock. Approximately 70% of all of the fresh water in the world is locked up in the ice of Antarctica and yet ironically, it is also the largest desert in the world. The definition of desert is a climate with less than 250mm annual rainfall.

Despite its climate, its beauty is utterly breathtaking. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean, and the Transatlantic Mountain Range bisects it. Although many people come to visit because of its astonishing beauty, it has no indigenous people. Several, however, have staked claim to it, including explorers like Captain James Cook of the UK. In 1773, Cook crossed the Antarctica Circle for the first time in history. Sir James Clark Ross of the UK founded the Ross Ice Shelf and Ross Sea as he was searching for the magnetic South Pole. In fact, Antarctica's only "indigenous people" are those of the nonhuman variety, including skua, petrel, albatross, krill, whales, seals, and penguins. In fact, they're unused enough to people that human visitors generally get a disinterested stare from such residents.

If you want to get to Antarctica, you first have to leave from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa or South America, by ship. At some point, you'll cross what's known as the "Antarctic Polar Frontal Zone". This phenomenon is caused by deep warm water flowing south from equatorial regions with deep, cold water from Antarctica. This creates a strip about 30 miles wide of up-swelling of nutrient rich turbulent water that surrounds the Antarctic. It came into existence of 20 million years ago, creating a natural barrier across which there has been very little exchange of marine life.

If you come here, dreams truly meet reality with the landscapes and seascapes producing utterly astonishing vistas. This is, after all, the "bottom of the world." You'll normally access the mainland via zodiac, making the trip up to three times a day. Each short trip usually lasts about three hours, with cruises themselves lasting between 10 and 15 days. Once you get on land, there's quite a lot to do and see.

You can mountain climb, scuba dive, kayak, or camp. When you're out here, you can see whales, seals, or penguins. You can also visit Deception Island, a "collapsed volcano" that exists in the Southern Shetland Islands, forming a natural harbour. This offers visitors an improbably thermally heated Pendulum Cove. Lemaire Channel, nicknamed "Kodak Gap" because of its popularity with visitors, lies between the Antarctic Peninsula cliffs and Booth Island. Paradise Harbour has breathtaking scenery and glaciers; this is one way to relax and simply take in the view. The Falkland Islands are also nearby, with a history that goes back to the 16th century. Then, Patagonians travelled to the islands, as did the Argentineans, the French, and the British.

Generally cruise ships not exceeding 250 passengers go to Antarctica. These types of expeditions are seasonal and include stops at remote areas, with wildlife viewing, and at historical huts, too. The best time travel to the Antarctica is in the summer between November and March, which has over 20 hours of sunlight in a day at that point. Temperatures vary, from between one below zero degrees Celsius to 30 below zero degrees Celsius, depending on where you are. It's also the windiest place on earth. No matter where you go on Antarctica, though, you'll marvel at the creation that lives there, and feast your eyes on a world you never thought you'd see.

STOP Homesickness at Summer Camp

By Lonnie and Jeff Lorenz

Thinking of sending your child to summer camp? But what about Homesickness? You don't have to be a camper suffer from homesickness. A strange, new place can trigger separation anxiety. It is a normal part of childhood for many kids. It is evidence of the loving, trusting relationship you have built with your child and therefor, separation for the first time often is scary.

At a Summer Camp a camper knows that separation is followed by reunion, but emotionally, it can be difficult to accept. When in the midst of adjusting to living with new people in a new environment, children can get overwhelmed. Even for children who enjoy new adventures and love sleepovers with friends and relatives, a short bout of homesickness is a common reaction.

It is important that you don't measure your success as a parent by your child's adjustment to camp. Even if your child has a difficult time adjusting to camp, it does not mean that you have failed to create an independent child. It may be difficult to understand how hard your child finds the first few days at camp. At times, it's almost as if your child believes that he or she will never see you again. Put your child's reaction into context. She may not be looking for a logical response from you, rather, what she wants is comfort and reassurance.

Homesickness is not about your child loving or trusting you enough, or about her independence or willingness to take risks. Homesickness is a temporary feeling that can be beaten with the support of camp staff. Beating homesickness it is a huge boost to to a childs self-confidence and self esteem. Helping kids get over home sickness is what camps do well. Be Sure to talk to the director if you feel this may be an issue for your child

Is it ever right to say that it isn't working and bring your child home? Sure, but you must make this decision with a great deal of thought and awareness of the long-term consequences. Campers who come home before the end of their stay often feel like failures. However, sometimes, even with the best of intentions and efforts on the parts of the parents and staff, a child is just not ready for camp or it's just not a good fit. If, after a real trial (a week is not to long), and the best efforts between home and camp your child is clearly not adjusting, it's time to bring the camper home.

ITalk to the camp director about your decision to to bring your child home. Support your child fully through what they feel is a failure. Reevaluation is best saved for many days after the return. You need to figgure it out with them. Help your child to understand that even though it did not work, he is not a failure. Suggest another sleepaway camp program at another time because you have confidence in him.

Should you feel overnight camp maybe difficult for your child find a program that has a special "first time camper program." Swift Nature Camp offers a unique SLEEPAWAY CAMP that is designed only for first time camper. This program works because it is long enough for campers to not get stuck at a place of homesickness, but rather helps them to get through those feelings. With a limited amount of campers and only first timers it sets a level playing feel for all campers.

The Blonde, the Brunette and the Vengeful Redhead Play

By Mara Hernandez-Capili

The Blonde, the Brunette and the vengeful Redhead is a one-man play derived from the playwright of Robert Hewett. He is an Australian playwright who garnered much accolades from critics and avid theatre goers because of this outstanding play. The play is composed of one character alone who shifts from character to character-let it be characterised as a monologue. Three main characters cast the superb play- a blonde, a redhead and a brunette.

Indicatively, an all around and versatile performer/ actress would very much fit this play. She has to internalized each character to allow the audience to mistook that there are plenty of character actors portraying the characters, when in fact it only has one. A superb actress can indeed pull it off and deserves a standing ovation.

The story is way complicated because the actress will portray all seven roles which includes the Blonde, the Brunette and the Redhead. It is a difficult task-being able to portray 7 characters at the same time and only a versatile actress can do this. The play can be a huge break for a starting actress. Great stage design is a plus and should feature 6 concealed panels that will serve as the dressing area of the actress all throughout the monologue.

The play is a comic play with a playful twist. It tells the story of the fat and unattractive, red-haired Rhonda who is vengeful with her husband's consistent ignores of her. The actress plays six more characters including the lusty blonde named Tanya, and the scheming brunette Lynette- who happens to be Rhonda's neighbor and bestfriend. The story unfolds when Rhonda desperately seeks out her husband's attention.

The character of Rhonda was sent to jail because she committed murder on a blonde girl she oversaw as the lover of her husband. Meanwhile the blonde girl has a lesbian lover and a son who was left with each other after her untimely demise. the character of the vehement and gossipmonger Lynette (the neighbor) is equally engagaing becasue she plays the devil's advocate throughout the story.

It is a comic thrill with just a hint of mystery. A great theatrical work of art that will surely bring the best out of an actress.

Hurtiguten's History

By Jeff Paulett

There are probably many people today that are thankful for an idea from many years ago that now allows them to travel to parts of Norway that they thought they would never be able to visit. This is all thanks to a Norwegian Sea Captain by the name of Richard With. He had an idea many years ago about starting a year round steam ship service that would link northern and southern Norway.

When Richard With came up with this idea it was the local Governor who apparently asked his associates, "Is this captain a dreamer, or is this possible?". Today everybody now knows that it is possible, but all of this started many years previous in the late 19th century, at a time when the Industrial Revolution had brought forth all kinds of technologies and comforts to Oslo and ports of the south.

Once his dream became a reality, Richard with knew that it would open up the remote and previously uncharted wilderness of the north coast so that its magnificent landscape could be available to everyone. Despite quite a bit of opposition, Richard With persisted in his quest to provide a way for passengers and supplies to get from Trondheim to Hammerfest on a consistent basis.

Richard With was convinced he could traverse a safe passage from the South to the North of Norway and was able to convince others that he could set up a faster and more efficient mail delivery route than the one available at that time. And that it could be done year round, even in the winter months.

At this point in time the Norwegian coast had not been completely navigated. Not only were there no complete maps of this waterway, there were no pilots available with the knowledge necessary to navigate this previously uncharted area. Few seafaring individuals were aware of the intense topographical challenges they would face on such a voyage.

The land north of Bergen was rugged and only accessible from the sea. Previous to this time, it had been only the Vikings who had sailed this dangerous coastline in search of the rich fishing waters.

This route was to become a lively trading channel, as boats were able to bring dried fish, flour, syrup and sugar to what would have been isolated communities. The main reason for this service was to deliver mail and that is why back then it was known as the Coastal Express.

Today, there are many Norwegians who may relate back to the history of this story and have affection for it. If you ask a coastal resident about Hurtigruten, there may well be emotion in the story they tell. It is the history and tradition with the endeavor from the captains and crew who helped to steer coastal communities into the modern age, and who are regarded with admiration.

Today, people who sail on a Hurtigruten vessel can traverse history by embarking on a voyage that in the past would have been impossible. The rugged coast of Norway provides passengers with a chance to enjoy the magnificent and scenic "Norwegian Magic". Visitors will not only be treated to a rare show of hospitality, but they will be able to relish in a tradition and culture that will leave a positive impression for years to come.

8 Cost-Cutting Tips For An Affordable Yacht Charter Vacation

By Sarah McAllistair

We're all trying to cut costs these days, and "staycations" have become all the rage. But sometimes you need to get away from it all and just relax and rejuvenate. A yacht charter may sound like an extravagant vacation that only a privileged few can afford. But it doesn't have to cost a fortune - it can actually be less expensive than spending a week at a hotel.

Below are 8 money-saving tips to help make your dream vacation happen:

1. Travel with friends. Getting a bunch of people together to share the costs is always a great strategy for keeping expenses down, whether you rent a villa or charter a yacht. I recently found a luxury catamaran (bareboat) in the Seychelles that sleeps 12 for $4,825/week - that's $402/person!

2. Sign up for email alerts and newsletters from charter companies, sailing magazines and other ocean-related publications (such as Islands magazine). Many charter companies and boat owners have lowered their prices as a result of the weakened economy, and this way, you get all the info sent to your inbox, instead of having to spend time searching for it on the web.

3. Ask if the price is negotiable. Most boat owners would rather rent out their boat for slightly less than not at all, so don't hesitate to ask, even if you are dealing with a charter broker company. Make sure to ask what the "hidden" or extra costs are - and if they can be included in the price listed.

4. Save on airfare. Many charter companies have special deals with airlines flying to their charter base - make sure to ask before booking anything.

5. Look for last minute deals. Again, signing up for newsletters and setting up Google alerts are great ways to find out about them. There are even entire websites devoted to last minute yacht charters, so do a bit of browsing as well.

6. Go slightly off-season when the weather is still nice but the crowds are lighter and there are more deals available. Late September/early October in the Mediterranean and April-June in the Caribbean are good times to go.

7. Early boarding. Typically, you arrive at the charter base the night before the charter start date and have to spend the first night in a hotel. Ask if you can get "early boarding" or "evening boarding". There might be a small fee for it, but it'll be less than a hotel room, plus you save yourself the inconvenience of having to unpack and pack things twice.

8. Boat swapping. If you're a boat owner, consider swapping boats with someone else. It works just like a home exchange, but with boats, and is a great way to be able to sail exotic waters without spending a fortune. If you are an accomplished boater but don't own a boat, you can always ask if someone is interested in exchanging their boat for your home for a week.

Deer Valley Resort has Great Restaurant Options

By Robin Rutecki

The ski vacation has evolved substantially from the no frills mountain adventures most common in the 1970s and 80s. All resorts across Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming have been in a quiet race to craft the perfect vacation experience.

Ski resorts have expanded the overall size and quality of their facilities, increased levels of service, and focused on the quality of their restaurants and shopping. Ski Magazine readers consistently rate Vail in Vail, Colorado and Deer Valley in Park City, Utah as the #1 and #2 resorts in the U.S.A. and Canada. Vail Resort held the #1 spot in 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006. Deer Valley Resort won the honors in 2008, 2007, 2005, and 2001.

Deer Valley focuses on the quality of its finely groomed trails, on mountain services, and on mountain dining to retain its #1 ranking. The resort prides itself on its award winning lunch menu as well as its fine dining restaurants open every evening during the ski season. The restaurants are located in Deer Valley Resorts opulent ski lodges.

The Mariposa is considered Deer Valleys flagship dining establishment serving European continental fare. Fireside Dining offers optional romantic horse drawn sleigh rides before dinner and a unique Swiss alpine menu served alongside stone fireplaces. The Seafood Buffet is a longtime favorite featuring a large selection of seafood as well as hearty items from the grill.

The town of Park City Utah has followed suit by increasing the number of luxury accommodations, fine dining, and shopping options. The expansion over the last 10 years has been very dramatic with literally hundreds of new luxury lodging options gradually replacing the more traditional ski vacation accommodations.

Due to this recent transition towards a more discerning visitor, Park City and Deer Valley restaurants have responded by providing an ever improving dining experience. Mobile, Michelin, AAA, and Zagat rate several restaurants close to Deer Valley Resort as top choices within their widely read travel guides.

My favorite is the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant because of its timeless Austrian decor and the delicious cheese fondue appetizer. The Goldener Hirsch Restaurant is located in the Goldener Hirsch Inn situated in the Silver Lake Village area of Deer Valley. The Glitretind Restaurant is another highly rated option which is located in the world famous Stein Ericksen Lodge.

Deer Valley resort definitely lives up to its #1 North American ski resort reputation. Why not have it all and visit a resort that not only provides the utmost experience on mountain, but also the perfect balance of off mountain dining and shopping as well? I definitely recommend taking a closer look.

How to Get the Cheapest Fare

By sapibontv

Traveling can get expensive but there are ways to help keep your travel costs down and make sure you get the cheapest fares available. Whether you are flying by boat, plane, train, or bus you should be able to cut way down on your travel expenses by taking some quick advice on getting the cheapest fares around.

One of the ways you can reduce your fares is by booking your trip in advance. Many companies will offer discounts to travelers that book their tickets 30 days or more in advance. This is especially true with airlines, and if you can book your trip even further in advance then you will find that your fares could be even lower.

Use the discount websites to find low fares on travel. If you stick with the more popular and well known websites, then you should not have any problem finding fares that are cheap and available. If you need to book other things like hotels and rental cars, then considering using these sites for those things as well. The more you can save by planning on a discount website the better off you are.

If you are flying then you may want to consider flying on stand by. Many airlines offer discounts, or other forms of compensation such as free ticket vouchers for future flights, to passengers that agree to fly stand by. It can be difficult to schedule a trip around flying stand by, but the savings would make it worth the hassle.

One way that you can lower the cost of your fares is consider alternate forms of transportation. If you are flying to a destination, then check and see if you have time to take the train or the bus instead. These alternative forms of transportation are going to be much less expensive, and if you do have the time to take the train or the bus then you get the added benefit of being able to take in the beautiful countryside on your trip.

Planning a successful destination wedding

By Randolph Quan

Dying to tie the knot on a tropical beach? A destination wedding offers a backdrop for your nuptials that many domestic locales can't match. With that beauty, though, comes a unique set of challenges. Here are five important tips for getting started planning your perfect destination wedding.

Start by choosing a location. You might have the exact location in mind already, but some people need to weigh the pros and cons of various places. Keep in mind that a destination wedding doesn't have to mean international -- anywhere more than a two-hour drive can be considered destination for those who stay close to home. Your budget is likely to be one of the largest determining factors, as a wedding in Australia will be significantly most expensive (for both you and your guests) than one in France.

Discuss things over with friends and family. A destination wedding is likely to cut down your guest list as it's just not realistic for many to travel the distance. Make sure those who are vital to your happiness - your parents, siblings, bridal party and others - can make it, and then you can start firming up your guest list and looking at particular venues.

Get to know the wedding coordinator. He or she will be your best friend. The better you know them, the less likely they'll delete your 48th email of the day asking if white calla lilies are native to their country.

Get to know the laws, both in your destination and at home. For most out-of-country weddings, you have to make it legal when you return from your wedding-moon. Some countries have residency restrictions - for example, you can't get married in the Caribbean's St. Martaan without residing there for 10 days.

Plan for after the wedding. Not only do you need to decide if you're going to stay and party with your family and friends or whisk away to another location for your honeymoon, you also need to plan for what to do with all those wonderful gifts you receive. Make sure your guests have the option of sending gifts straight to your home residence.
