Uncover reduced hotels

By Joe Solestans

People all over the globe are looking for the cheapest possible hotels these days. There are many factors that determine the cost of a room some noticeable, some not so apparant. This guide should help you.

The primary factor for shaping the price of a hotel is how far in advance you make the booking. Many hotel chains offer cheaper rooms for those smart enough to book well ahead of time. Also be aware of local events, the arrival of a large sports team or competition can push the prices way higher in the days leading up to it.

The key is to predict when a hotel is likely to be under booked. This can usually happen after a major holiday or event when many people are leaving the city. For example if you book after the summer holidays eg in September you can make huge savings as most people are unable to take out their children from school for a holiday.

Another money saving point to consider is strange dates. Most hotels for example charge less for a room at the start of the week, usually Wednesday to Sunday. Therefore, for the same money you can get a far more plush room. On the flipside, this could work to your advantage as the native attractions too could be charging less for these days as too.

Checking comparison sites can be ok but it can also be quite slow and tedious, especially if you have to enter the same details in over and over again. I have found its a much better option to use one engine and change the search criteria such as dates and room type to get better deals. Most of the price comparison sites are on the same commission with all hotels and rarely have access to different offers.

You also want to test with different locations of hotels. We all know that hotels are much more costly closer to the city centre. However with a little patience and by keeping google maps handy you can often spot hotels that are quite close to the centre but nowhere near as pricey as legit city centre accommodation.

Consider the perks and amenities you require with your hotel too. Is it necessary to pay for a gymnasium when you have no intent of using it? Usually they'll state it comes free with the room but this is very unlikely, they need to recoup the costs somehow don't they?

Sometimes, phoning up and bargaining for a cheap deal is advisable. Usually, larger chains will deny you but smaller independent businesses can bend over to some extent to make the sale. There's nothing to lose is there?

Clearly there are more things to think about when booking a hotel than you first though. Don't be overwhelmed though, with a little consideration and careful planning you can cut your hotel fee in half.
