Hotels in Old Havana

By J. M. Maurette

If you are looking around to make up your mind about which Havana hotels to go for your upcoming Cuba Holidays then you are reading the right article. I will let you know which are the best hotels in Havana categorized by star rating and the average price per person.

There are about 14 different neighbourhoods in Havana among which the most popular in terms of tourist affluence are The Old Town, Vedado and Miramar quarters. These areas have the best tourist infrastructure in Havana.

If money is not an issue with you then go for either of Parque Central Hotel, Saratoga Hotel or Santa Isabel Hotel. The last one is one of the most luxurious palaces built in the 18th century to house the Governor of Cuba. This hotel only have 35 rooms and the views are just fantastic.

There are other hotels in the Old Town that although are lower in star rating they are as charming and comfortable as the ones mention above. These 4 star hotels were built in the 18th Century to house the richest and most prominent families in Havana.

Florida Hotel, Raquel Hotel and O'Farril Hotel are among the most beautiful palaces. They have an average of 30 rooms each so the service is always going to be more personalized compared to those huge Havana hotels.

There are cheaper options in the Old Town such as Comendador Hotel and Hostal Valencia. Both very charming palaces from the 17th Century with only 14 rooms each. They both feature the best restaurant for Spanish Tapas and Valencia Paella respectively.

The cheapest hotels in the Old Town are El Lido and Lincoln Hotel. These are 2 star hotels suitable for students or other travellers on a tight budget. They are very basic but they all have air conditioning, bathroom ensuite and satellite TV.

Prices range from 15.00 CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos) per person per night for the cheapest hotels to 80.00 CUC per person per night for the most expensive 5 star hotels. The 4 star hotels which I highly recommend can be booked online for around 50.00 CUC per person per night.
